ONWAA is hiring! Policy and Research Analyst

This short term contract position with the organization, ending March 31^st, 2025, has the potential for an extension.  Under the direction and supervision of the Executive Director, the Policy and Research Analyst will conduct research, develop position papers and write research documents for the Board of Directors and membership. The research and position papers will assist ONWAA members and the Board of Directors with establishing best practices that meet the unique needs of First Nations communities in the area of Income Assistance and Assisted Living.

 QUALIFICATIONS

• Post-secondary education; preferably in social work, political science, health sciences, adult education or data management.
• Must be able to work independently and must have the ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment regarding matters of significance.
• Must be able to resolve difficult problems, use analytical judgement, and must be able to process a high volume of accurate, detailed, and quality work products with an unsurpassed attention to detail.
  

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review and evaluate legislation and policies for the Assisted Living (Homemakers and Nurses Services) and fixed income files.
• Determine the benefits and drawbacks of existing policies.
• Liaise with stakeholders to determine needs and goals of policies.
• Gather data and produce reports on qualitative and quantitative analysis specific to poverty within First Nations communities (market basket measure, senior and elder care in First Nations communities).
• Conduct background policy research and analysis to support existing projects; synthesize research findings to identify and recommend best practices.
• Prepares position papers, for consideration of and approval by the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
• Supports the Executive Director by implementing and carrying out research projects for the Assisted Living file and by performing specific assigned tasks and activities in the area of research.
• Maintains contact with federal and provincial government officials to learn of new or changed government policies, programs and sources.
• Attends meetings as appointed on behalf of the Executive Director.

 Salary: ONWAA Salary grid will apply. Health benefits after 3 months and TFSA available after one year.

Location: Work from Home arrangements will be made.
